Building a channel, starting with Europe

Object storage is no longer just for those with petabytes of data. With the growing number of use cases, it is clear that more and more users are looking at object storage not just for the good $/GB in large capacity scenarios, but also because of its ability to provide access to data anywhere and any device. This slide, which I used in a webinar, should give you a clear idea of what I mean.

Not all object stores can start small and grow as flexibly as OpenIO SDS. Some products have scalability issues, while others can't scale down to small deployments, because their design requires a minimum of nodes (sometimes specialized nodes) that make them too hard for small organizations to install and manage. In other cases, you can find vendors proposing single-instance servers, which are good for development, but then the problem for production environments remains.

OpenIO doesn't have these limitations, and is open source; customers can download and try it on any type of hardware. Nevertheless, we have to ensure the best user experience for our customers, and this is why our strategy is focused on partners.

Announcing our first distributor

Today we announced our first distribution partnership with ICOS in Italy. We have direct partners already, such as 2CRSI in France and Pipeline in Japan, but this is different, and is focused on helping small organizations adopt object storage.

Our goal is to build a network of VARs and system integrators that will be able to follow small and medium business organizations with local pre-sales and post-sales services. Today’s announcement is the first step in that direction. To do so, we are training a selected number of partners and certifying specific hardware configurations that will simplify the sales and deployment processes.

The first OpenIO+HW bundle will be out in a matter of days. It is designed to get a 3-node 100TB cluster up and running in a few minutes.

I’ve been getting inquiries from end users all around Europe since my first day at OpenIO, and we will be soon be able to give them quicker answers offering local partners and professional services.


Object storage is becoming part of everyone's storage strategy. OpenIO SDS allows end users to start out small with a minimal investment and grow to higher capacities by adding just one node at a time. In addition, our hassle-free subscription model, based on usable capacity, enables customers to buy only what they need in a pay-as-you-grow fashion.

With the introduction of local distribution partnerships, certified hardware bundles, and by training selected resellers, we will bring OpenIO SDS flexibility to a wider audience while ensuring high-quality professional services at affordable prices.
